Maintenance and care
WARNING
The engine compartment contains many mechanisms and fluids that may move suddenly,
become hot, or become electrically energize d. To avoid death or serious injury, observe
the following precautions:
■When working on the engine compartment
●Keep hands, clothing and tools away from the moving fan and engine drive belt.
●Be careful not to touch the engine, radiator, exhaust manifold, etc. right after driving
as they may be hot. Oil and other fluids may also be hot.
●Do not leave anything that may burn easily, such as paper or rags, in the engine com-
partment.
●Do not smoke, cause sparks or expose an open flame to fuel or the battery. Fuel and
battery fumes are flammable.
●Be extremely cautious when working on the battery. It contains poisonous and corro-
sive sulfuric acid.
■When working near the electric cooling fans or radiator grille
Be sure the engine switch is off. With the engine switch in IGNITION ON mode, the
electric cooling fans may auto matically start to run if the air conditioning is on and/or
the coolant temperature is high. ( P. 465)
■When working on or under the vehicle
Do not get under the vehicle with just the jack supporting it.
Always use automotive jack stands or other solid supports.
■Safety glasses
Wear safety glasses to prevent flying or falling material, fluid spray, etc. from getting in
your eyes.
NOTICE
■If you remove the air cleaner filter
Driving with the air cleaner f ilter removed may cause excessive engine wear due to dirt
in the air.

coolant up to the “F” line.
WARNING
■Used engine oil
●Used engine oil contains potentially harm ful contaminants which may cause skin dis-
orders such as inflammation or skin canc er, so care should be taken to avoid pro-
longed and repeated contact. To remove used engine oil from your skin, wash
thoroughly with soap and water.
●Dispose of used oil and filters only in a sa fe and acceptable manner. Do not dispose of
used oil and filters in household trash, in sewers or onto the ground. Call your Lexus
dealer, service station or auto parts store for information concerning recycling or dis-
posal.
●Do not leave used engine oil within the reach of children.
NOTICE
■To prevent serious engine damage
Check the oil level on regular basis.
■When replacing the engine oil
●Be careful not to spill engine oil on the vehicle components.
●Avoid overfilling, or the engine could be damaged.
●Check the oil level on the dipstick every time you refill the vehicle.
●Be sure the engine oil filler cap is properly tightened.

When trouble arises
■If a message that indica tes the malfunction of front camera is displayed
The following systems may be suspended until the problem shown in the message is
resolved. ( P. 238, 518)
●PCS (Pre-Collision System)
●LDA (Lane Departure Alert)
●Automatic High Beam
●Dynamic radar cruise control
■If “Radar Cruise Control Unavailable” is shown
The dynamic radar cruise control sy stem cannot be used temporarily.
Use the system when it becomes available again.
■If “Maintenance Required Soon” is shown (U.S.A. only)
Indicates that all maintenance according to the driven distance on the maintenance
schedule
* should be performed s oon. Comes on approximatel y 4500 miles (7200 km)
after the message has been reset. If necessary, perform main tenance. Please reset the
message after the maintenance is performed. ( P. 449)
*: Refer to the separate “Scheduled Maintena nce” or “Owner’s Manual Supplement” for
the maintenance interval applicable to your vehicle.
■If “Maintenance Required Visit Your Dealer” is shown (U.S.A. only)
Indicates that all maintenance is required to correspond to the driven distance on the
maintenance schedule

Comes on approximately 5000 miles (8000 km) after the message has been reset.
(The indicator will not work properly unless the message has been reset.) Perform the
necessary maintenance. Please reset the message after the maintenance is performed.

■If “OIL MAINTENANCE REQU IRED” “Oil Maintenance Required Visit Your Dealer”
is shown
Indicates that the engine oil should be scheduled to be changed.
Check and change the engine o il, and oil filter by your Lexus dealer. After changing the
engine oil, make sure to reset the message. ( P. 462)
■If “Check Access System with Elec. Key” is shown
The smart access system with push-button star t may be malfunctioning. Have the vehicle
inspected by your Lexus dealer immediately.
